Liz Lake (she/her)
Birth Doula (DTI), CLC
I came to birth work through a winding road. I'm a native Texan with a master's degree in Human Rights from the London School of Economics, and I spent years in tech before I finally admitted that a spreadsheet had never once made me feel anything.
I found my way into birth support through volunteering with Giving Austin Labor Support, walked into my first birth with almost no idea what to expect, and was completely undone by what I witnessed. Not the birth itself, exactly. It was the transformation. Watching someone step into a version of themselves they didn't know yet. I quit my job and never looked back. That was 100+ births ago.
My approach is grounded in evidence, honesty, and deep respect for your autonomy. Informed consent isn't a formality. It's the foundation of good care. Whether you're planning an unmedicated labor, a scheduled cesarean, a VBAC, or something still taking shape, I'm here for the birth you actually want, not the one anyone else thinks you should have.
My style in the birth space is calm, direct, and genuinely present. I will tell you the truth when you need it and hold steady when things get hard. I'm here to support your experience, not manage it.
I live in central Austin with my husband, two kids, two dogs, and an orange cat who will absolutely bite you if you pet her for longer than three seconds. Outside of birth work, I serve as treasurer of the Central Texas Doula Association and sew goofy pants for my kids.
